Open Austin's Work

Open Austin is a civic organization dedicated to serving Central Texans through civic design, technology, and data.

We help Central Texans access information and use technology for the public good.  In this way, residents can hold their society accountable while improving their economic opportunities.

We do this through our Communities of Civic Practice, Grassroots Civic Hacking Lab, and Civic Data Fellowship.

Civic Data Fellowship

Our Civic Data Fellowship trains the next generation of community leaders by developing technologists with no-to-low professional tech experience, building their confidence, technical competence, and collaboration through guided exploration of public data around Austin Area-specific issue areas.

Grassroots Civic Hacking Lab

Open Austin's Labs builds free and open source software for community organizations, elected officials, and government agencies to address pressing research questions and advocate for policy change.

Communities of Civic Practice

Our Communities of Civic Practice are career-specific peer-learning circles with practitioners across all experience levels.
